This month we’re doing a really fun block. When you finish you will have 2 completed blocks with opposite arrangement of colors. But we’re not going to do those final seams until the blocks are ready to be sewn into a quilt. So you will actually have 4 ½ blocks. This way we avoid doing a lot of Y seams and can put them together with straight seams.

You will need 2 strips of fabric, 2 ½” by 44 from 4 different fabrics.

Figure 1

Sew together 2 strip sets that include 4 fabrics each (figure 1)

Now you are going to take your ruler and place the 60 degree (see arrow) line along the bottom of your strip and make your first cut.

Once you have the first cut you will alternate your ruler from the top to the bottom forming your pyramid cuts 60 degree (see arrow). (Figure 3 & 4).  You are going to do this for both strip sets.

Create two piles of matching blocks.

You are now going to sew 3 matching triangles together.

Create 3 more of these sets (figure 5).

How fun is that?  When we have a bunch of ½ blocks made up we can lay them out and sew rows across and then sew completed rows together (figure 6).

This will make a fantastic quilt once it’s all together and quilted.

And guess what?

You’ll have some extra triangles that can be sewn together for a scrappy quilt.
