New Year - New changes!
I am attempting to make all the
BOMs this year with the EQ7 Quilting software.
So this
month our block of the month is coming from one of the
lessons I did.
I’m referring to this as the Scrappy
Star. And it’s the second time we’ve done a paper
piecing project as our block of the month.
This is a wonderful block for all
levels of quilters. Your quilts blocks should all come
out perfect as you are sewing on the lines.
If you’ve never paper-pieced, I
encourage you to go to check out Leah Day’s You Tube
demonstration.
Paper Piecing with Leah Day
Here are some tips.
In general you don’t want to use
regular paper to do your sewing. You want to use a
light weight paper.
On Fons and Porter they showed how
you can take 10 layers of tailor’s paper, tracing paper
or I’ve used paper stabilizer and pin it to your
pattern. Then run it through your sewing machine
(without thread) to identify all the lines. Write the
numbers on the pieces. Use a longer size stitch. You
don’t want your pattern to fall apart too easily.
Remember with paper piecing, you
are actually sewing with the pattern piece on top so you
can see the lines.
Your fabric is on the bottom.
Press or finger press as you go
along. For sharp edges.
When you’re sewing your fabric on
to the paper use a smaller stitch length. This makes it
easier to tear off the paper when you’re done.
Leave the paper on until you’ve
sewn all the blocks together. This helps keep your
blocks stabilized and a standard size.
Have fun. Make lots of blocks.
Remember if you can’t make it to
our quilt days, you can always mail a few blocks to us

Your blocks can be combined with
others to provide one of our wounded warriors with a
spectacular quilt.
