November Block of the Month - The The Honeycomb - Want it all? Click on the PDF

This month we’re going small.

This is our smallest block and it’s excellent for some of our scrap quilting.  It’s called the Honeycomb.

Cut one piece of fabric 3 ½” by 6 1/2”

Cut four - 2“squares of coordinating fabric.

Place the first square, right sides together on one corner of the larger block.  Now sew on the diagonal.  It’s good to go just a hair over to make sure when you press it back that it stays as a 3 ½” X 6 ½” block.  Cut off the excess and press

Next add the second square to the opposite side and repeat the process.

You will see that you have a nice quarter inch seam available for when we sew all the honeycombs together.

Add the remaining to squares.  Make sure you trim and press before adding additional blocks.

Now, that easy!  I’m sure you have plenty of scraps to use to make a slew of these.

Bring them to our next sew date, or if you’re one of our out of town sewers, mail them to:

These can be used for either Quilts of Valor (www.QOVF.org) or Quilts for Kids.  If not as a whole quilt, they can be used as a border.  So we can make a wide variety of quilts with this versatile block.
