East Meets West or When a City
of Angels Meets a Gathering of Angels
As a young woman growing up, you may wonder "What is
my roll in life?", "Where do I fit in...?", "How can I
make a Difference?".
The answers to these questions come from learned experiences at
Marlborough
School in Los Angeles, California.
Marlborough School has been preparing young women
for leadership and contribution to humanity since 1889.
A shining example of the caliber of the women attending
the school and serving the nation comes from 2009 Senior
Ali Slagle. Ali is deeply involved in community giving
and leadership. Volumes could be written about Ali's
giving and personal accomplishments (just Google her, Oh WOW! - Way to go
Ali!), but it is more than the accomplishments she
has received, it is about how Ali and the other
students under her leadership have forever touched the
lives of children stricken with pediatric cancer. According to recent statistics, EVERY DAY 46
school age children are stricken with pediatric cancer.
Ali sought a project concept for Human Kindness Day
2009, did some research and found the MSP Quilting
Angels of Germantown, MD through the internet. The young women of Marlborough School created hand
colored blocks with inscriptions of hope to bolster the
spirits of the children. With love, talent and
inspiration, the Quilting Angels created
custom heirloom quilts for distribution by the
Candlelighters - Childhood Cancer
Foundation.
All quilts are
presented during a
Blessing of The Quiltswhich occurs 2-3 times each year. The quilts made with the blocks created by the student body of Marlborough School will be presented
at the National Awareness Tree Lighting Ceremony, Saturday December 12th, 2009 at the Old Post Office Pavilion, Washington, D.C.
Sincere Thanks to Ali Slagle, the young women of
Marlborough School, Ms. Laurie Brown , Director
Community Service, and of course the creators of the
quilts from the MSP Quilting Angels - Jean, Jodie,
Kathy, Liz and Sandi.
To learn more about how you and your organization can become involved in a
similar project, just
write to us like
Ali did! We'll join forces, forever change your life and the lives
of children with pediatric cancer.
Please enjoy the
pictorial of how this all
happened...
